Voting

One of the fundamental rights of our democracy is the right to vote. Any U.S. citizen who is at least age 18 on Election Day is eligible. But before you can cast a ballot, you must register. Voter registration forms are available at any Secretary of State office, online at the Michigan Voter Information Center at Michigan.gov/vote or from your local clerk.

  • Changes are coming to Absent Voting in the State of Michigan. Before voters could be on a list to have an AV application sent to them each election asking if they would like an AV ballot sent to them during that specific election. The State of Michigan is removing this and just going to one list, the Permanent Absent Voter List. This means no application will be sent out asking which elections you would like to participate in, but that you will receive an AV ballot for all elections going forward. If you wish to be put on the Permanent AV list, please submit something to the Clerk's office in writing that you wish to be placed on this list. If you already receive an AV Ballot, but are not sure if you are already on this list, please feel free to reach out to the Clerk's office. These changes will not take effect until 2025 (well after the Presidential Election).
