Description

The City of Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan is seeking a highly motivated individual to become its next City Manager. Located in Van Buren County, Hartford is unofficially considered “The Heart of Red Arrow Country. It lies adjacent to Interstate 94 at exit 46, which is the state’s major east-west transportation route, providing Hartford with an excellent connection to major Midwestern population centers.

Chicago, Illinois lies approximately 100 miles to the west and Detroit, Michigan, approximately 160 miles to the east. Regional urban centers such as Benton Harbor, Michigan and Kalamazoo, Michigan are also close by.

The City Manager will oversee a $2.8M total budget and 14 full-time and 2 part-time staff. The City operates its own police, water, sewer, DPW and DDA.

Qualify individuals will be expected to have:

• Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in the public sector.
• A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, public policy or related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience with municipal finance, community & economic development and project management oversight.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to engage employees and citizens to assist their efforts to enhance the quality of life for all community members.
